Abigail: {15 Years Old}

I consider Abby to be somewhat of a miracle child. When I became pregnant with her, I had already had one miscarriage. At twelve weeks along I started having the same problems I had the with the first pregnancy. The doctors said I had miscarried again and they took me for an ultrasound to see if I would need another D & C. But, there she was on the screen, bouncing around with a very strong heartbeat.

I continued to have problems into my sixth month. Then at another ultrasound, they told me that she had cysts on her brain. They didn't know what this meant for her and so they did another ultrasound a few weeks later. The cysts were gone.

Abby decided she didn't really want to be born. Two weeks past my due date, I finally went into a very slow labour. I was induced and yet she still didn't want to join us. 36 hours later, after cutting, forceps and finally the vacuum she was born in a posterior position. Her cord was completely dried up and we were amazed this hadn't caused any problems.

They then had to call in a surgeon to see if I should go to the OR, since my tearing was so severe. They decided it wasn't needed and the donut pillow and frozen peas became my new best friends!

Sunday Snapshot: {Daughters}

For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also. -- Luke 12:34

abby's dress-12

Today, Lilah is wearing a little dress that was Abby's when she was a little girl.

abby's dress-17

The one and only dress that I kept these 15 years.

abby's dress-01

It makes me a little sad, but also very glad.

abby's dress-16

That one daughter is growing up to be an amazing and beautiful young lady, and that God, after 14 years, blessed us with another precious daughter.

Being Outside

Lilah loves being outside. And finally, we have beautiful weather!

Today, we went to see the opthamologist. He was absolutely stunned. He said that the improvement he sees in Lilah's right eye (in only six weeks of patching) he usually doesn't see within FIVE YEARS! We are going to continue with the patching, but can be a little more relaxed about it, if we are out and she doesn't want to wear it. He says that we only have about 3% more improvement to go, and even if that doesn't happen, she has already beaten the odds by leaps and bounds.

They did the matching game again, and he said we must have gotten the smartest kid in China. He cannot believe she is only two years old and can match letters like she did.

Can you tell how much she loves her swing?

Oh, yeah, and then there's this one...

He does pretty good, for an old guy.

Despite the injuries...

And despite the bike that is 20 years old...

It makes for some pretty good family time.

Radio Flyer

Lilah loves to be outside. Surrounded by her siblings and their friends.

She is happy to just stand forever on her scooter and watch what is going on.

But, with all these boys, she won't be getting too close!

Spring is here... for today.

kim's yard-20

Today, we took some pictures in our neighbor's yard. Their yard is really over the top, but has some amazing places to take pictures.

kim's yard-02

The weather here is starting warm up once again, and so we thought it would be good to take advantage of it before it snows again. No, I am not really joking... here you never know.

kim's yard-07

Lilah does love getting her photos taken, although to get a "real" smile out of her can be tricky.

kim's yard-18

Almost, a smile... now we just need some eye contact.

kim's yard-28

There we go!

kim's yard-31

I have to add in my typical hand and feet shot. I take so many of these, because when they grow up, this is one thing I miss. Tiny, chubby hands and feet!

kim's yard-14

We bought this dress in China. We had to get it, because what was written on the back! I have NO idea what this translation into English was suppose to mean? A bit strange for a two year olds dress, wouldn't you agree?

Secret Daughter

I am posting about another book I have just finished reading. I know a lot of you actually go and read some of the books that I talk about... so I figured I would keep posting my favorites.

This is a fictional story about adoption. Although, the story is about an adoption out of India, I felt that so much of the feelings from the birth mother, the daughter and the adoptive mother, related in so many ways to adoptions out of China. The feelings a young birth mother faces throughout her entire life after "being forced" to give up her baby girl, because of poverty, gender and tradition. The feelings of an adoptive mother who always second guesses every feeling and interaction with her daughter. The feelings of the adopted child as she grows and tries to figure out where she came from and where she fits in.

"At some point, the family you create is more important than the family you are born into..." The words to the daughter by her adoptive grandfather.

Micah and Mom

Abby took the following pictures...

micah 3-1

Micah is my cuddly boy. He still loves to curl up on my lap and veg out, although it only lasts for a few minutes, before he's off and doing something else again.

micah bw-1

I steal kisses whenever I can get them! He acts like he hates it, but I know he doesn't.

micah and mom-1

I could look at this boy all day long. He is so different from my other children... blond hair, green eyes, pale skin and now... huge freckles appearing on his tiny little nose.

micah hugs-1

I know he loves me too.

mom and micah bw-2

And my favorite picture... he couldn't possibly smile nicely for the camera. He is missing many teeth and looks really goofy. But he still puts up with his mother!
