Ready to go

DSC_0018-2

I feel so ready to go to China. We have all of our paperwork. The Travel Approval is in the province and being sent out to us. The flights are booked. The itinerary is set. We know who is in our travel group.

We are getting to know the other families that we will be traveling with through emails. We are getting some great tips on packing and what to bring and how to organize everything.

Lilah continues to ask everyday when we will leave. I need some suggestions on something to help her understand how many more days are left...

Meanwhile, the two of us are enjoying our time together until everything changes once again and her time will need to be shared with Zoe.

You can make a paper chain. Cut paper (to be green - get some out of the recycle bin) into strips 2cm by 8 cm and staple into a ring. Insert the next strip then staple as well. You can have one ring for each day before you leave. This chain could then be hung from the wall in her room.

Lilah could take off one ring each day. This will help her see how long it is, and watch it grow shorter. You can explain that when there are no more rings left this is when you will travel to China.

I use this idea in my primary classes (usually around Christmas time) to help the students understand how many more days left until winter break. I've tried calendars and crossing off days with them, but this is more visual and hands on which they like.

Just thought of another idea, to make this a "happy/positive" waiting time - why not make an advent type calendar? Maybe having a little hershey kiss each morning will brighten her day?

I was going to suggest the paper chain too! It's fun and simple and a great visual reminder.

Dan said he remembers his mom doing one of these chains with Ali when she was little for something-or-other, and mom put in a special link for one day as it happened to be Ali's birthday. I don't *think* we have any fall birthdays until you are already gone as Jenn's is past, but maybe your side of the family? I'm sure you could think of lots of things. Even something like all the Saturday rings being a certain colour and then she can learn about weeks. Well, maybe. :)

I can only imagine how ready you are and love that Lilah is taking this all so well. Is that a sister shirt she is wearing? :)

It is a little sister shirt... she wore it home off of the plane to meet her siblings.

I was going to suggest the paper chain as well. It worked well for Riley. I can't wait for you to go either! So excited for your family!

Enjoy the special time with just the 2 of you...it is so precious! I know how anxious you must be to go. I feel the same. Are you gone for 14 days? We were gone for 16 days last time and I'm hoping it will be a little shorter this time. Blessings!
