Saying Goodbye to Chengdu

We LOVE China! This is such a fascinating and amazing country to see. The people are interesting to watch. The fashion where we are is stunning, the people are friendly and the food is so good.

We are staying downtown and it feels like we are in New York City in Times Square. Huge lit up billboards, cars honking and 12 million people. And it feels like 12 million people... There is mall after mall after mall and it feels like 30 outlet malls all put together. A couple block down is Louis Vitton, Tiffany's, Prada, etc. If you head to the back alleys, that is where you will find more deals, in the smaller shops.

Every street corner has hundreds of bikes and scooters lined up and parked. Crossing the road here is life threatening, pedestrians do not have the right of way. If you aren't hit by a car, it might be a bike or scooter. They often will drive on the sidewalks as well. There are lanes but that doesn't seem to mean anything, you drive wherever you fit in, even if that is on the wrong side of the road at times. They honk here, not to be rude, just to let you know where they are (I'm cutting in or making room for you, or watch out!).

Down the side streets there are little restaurants everywhere. The people cram in and sit and eat noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can walk and see them making the noodles, selling the fresh meat and fruit. The woman sit and prepare the vegetables on the curb, a little old lady will be sitting on the sidewalk knitting and down an alley you will see women sewing on sewing machines.

Chengdu sits in a basin surrounded by mountains that you cannot see, due to the fog and smog. But it is a very tropical feel, with all the flowers and trees and the silky air.

Lovely! I can hardly wait to see China again! I'm looking forward to having summer for a few weeks. The current weather in China is like a typical Saskatchewan summer. ;)I'm amazed that your girls like the baby carrier. Malia hated it! I really wanted to carry her, but for the most part she preferred the stroller...I was glad be decided to bring it.

Lovely pics. It does look very cosmopolitan there, moreso than where we were. I remember the traffic so well- our mouths hung open in the bus all the time. It's a miracle hundreds or thousands of people aren't killed every day! Have fun in Beijing:)
