Almost done!

DSC_0014-6

I haven't posted in awhile about Lilah's tissue expander fills. My posts are going on the No Hands But Ours blog and so I thought I would do one now that another four weeks (and four more fills) have gone by!

Lilah has absolutely no complaints regarding any pain. She cannot chew or lay down on that side of her face, but the only discomfort she has is the tube that runs behind her ear. Her cheek is very large now and the skin looks like a balloon. It is stretched so taunt that it is more transparent than usual and shiny as well. The expander has slipped down toward her jaw and this isn't ideal, but hopefully won't cause any problems when the surgery is actually done.

I did find out that the surgery likely won't be done until late August or early September. The tissue expander needs to stay in for 2-3 months after the fills are complete or the skin will contract too quickly.

Today's fill, brings us up to 65 cc's of saline. The surgeon does want to overfill it a little bit, because I guess it can deflate slightly over time. We will see the Plastic Surgeon in two weeks to see if they want to do any more fills. We also see the Opthamologist on Monday and hopefully he will be pleased with the expander and it's location.

I have tears in my eyes, I'm sure you have these feelings too, but as a mother, I want to take that discomfort and pain away from her. I want to be the one that endures it for her.

She is a beautiful miracle child.

Love her.
Hugs, Jill.

I love how her light still shines through in her eyes:) Strong girl. It probably hurts you more than it does her, as the previous person said. They just roll with the punches.

She is such a strong little gal who-like Beth said-still has that light in her eyes and that sweet smile.

She does seem to be content with the process and still has that beautiful smile. Big Hug to you and Lilah.

Hugs to everyone until I get to actually do them myself.

Love you all.

I have to admit my heart sunk a little when I heard how LONG we still have to wait - I thought surgery would be done and over with soon! She is doing so well. A spunky fighter for sure. I'm continually thankful how perfectly God fit her into our family. She is sure cherished!

As I just went back and looked at her eyes and her smiles a second time, I was reminded of a little girl Lilah's age that we met in Central America doing a medical clinic. Her cheek looked much like Lilah's, but it was due to an abscess. How grateful I am that we have such readily available medical care!

She is beautiful. Hoping that the specialists feel the expander is in the right place.

She is a beautiful little girl! She smiles as if she knows something amazing is going to happen to her!

We are excited for her that she is nearly done this phase! Tough little cookie!

What a toughie she is!

I'm sorry to hear surgery won't happen for a little while yet; I can imagine life is a bit on hold until then in some ways. I'll continue praying that Lilah holds strong the entire time. It sounds like she is doing remarkably well!
