Mid-Autumn Moon Festival
Yesterday was the Mid-Autumn Festival. There are two Chinese holidays that we are always sure to celebrate in our home. This one, and Chinese New Year.
We celebrated with Chinese Hot Pot. Our favorite type of Chinese meal! We had a similar meal while in Beijing in May, and although we don't include some of the very strange things they gave us (like blood tofu!) we pick our very favourite items and Canadianize (is that a word???) them.
We buy our hot pot stock at TNT Supermarket, our local Asian speciality market. Our hot pot includes:
- baby bok choy
- fresh noodles
- thinly sliced beef
We then dip these items into a Sesame Dressing (I use Kraft) with fresh cilantro and hot chili oil.
We ended our meal with tea and moon cakes. We tried some traditional moon cakes with walnuts and dates and some ice cream moon cakes, neither were a big hit!
The Mid-Autumn Moon
by Li Qiao
A full moon hangs high in the chilly sky,
All say it's the same everywhere, round and bright.
But how can one be sure thousands of li away
Wind and perhaps rain may not be marring the night?
