Oh, the things they say!

Abby: Lilah, stop lying to me!
Lilah: I am not lying... I am being tricky.

Zoe: Why do Jersome and Abby kiss on the lips and they aren't even married?!

Zoe: Mom, when are you going to get a boyfriend?
Me: I'm not. I have a husband.
Zoe: Who is he?

Abby: Joe, are you looking forward to high school?
Joe: I'm looking forward to it being over.
Abby: Aren't you excited to meet all the new girls?
Joe: Well now... that sounds like trouble.

After I had a glass of wine one night, Josiah came to give me a hug. He exclaimed, "Oh, you smell like Grandma!"

Lilah: How many colours of dragonflies are there? I have seen only blue and brown.
Micah: I have seen black ones too.
Lilah: Were they a double dragonfly? I have seen double dragonflies. That is when two are stuck together!

Zoe: Being human is so stupid.
Abby: What should we be?
Zoe: Cats and dogs.

Zoe: I want it to be Halloween in two days so I can get candy from strangers. Some strangers stay in their houses and some don't.

Zoe: Sometimes you have boyfriends, but what if you have too many? And they don't all fit in your car? Then it will explode!

Zoe: If you run onto the dock with no lifejacket and jump into the lake YOU WILL DIE!!! Then you will go up to Heaven and never come back down.

Kindergarten to University

Silas started Kindergarten. He was very excited to go to the same school as four of his other siblings and I am excited to have all five of them in the same school!

Zoe is in grade one. She on the other hand was not very excited to go back to school. I think being at school all day is going to be difficult for her. I am curious to see what her teacher will think of her in these first days.

Lilah is also in grade one. I put the little girls in different classes this year. Lilah is very smart and Zoe was comparing herself to Lilah all the time. Lilah loves school and could hardly wait to go back!

Micah is in grade five and only wanted to go back to school to be with all of his friends.

Eli is in grade eight. He loves being at school. He is very social and loves to learn.

Josiah on the other hand... hates school. I totally get it. He would rather be at the skatepark and making his movies. He was excited to start high school, but only because it means the end is near!

And then there's this girl... Abby started University. She is taking Science at a smaller, local University. It amazes me how nothing stresses her and she just drives off like it's no big deal.

I never thought I would have this many children and that they would range from age 5 to 18. I don't know if it makes me feel old or young!

I have always wanted to go and see this church in Sedona, Arizona. It is about a two hour drive from Phoenix and since we usually have seven kids with us, we don't want to make the drive!

Tim and I had a quick weekend away before school started this year, and it seemed the perfect time to go visit Sedona. It is a very charming and artsy little city. And the scenery is breathtaking.

We drove around for a couple of hours in Sedona, seeing as many of the sights as we could. One thing I didn't like about Sedona... it was very new age. There were signs everywhere advertising psychic readings, conjuring stores, crystals, etc. That scares me.

But the Chapel of the Holy Cross... amazing! Built right into the rock, overlooking the city.

I may not agree with everything Catholic, but I do think it is a rich and beautiful religion full of tradition and rituals.

We drove towards Flagstaff, through the mountains to get back to the main highway to Phoenix. The red rock disappeared and it felt very much like our Canadian Rockies. The highway was lined with cars of people picnicking and swimming in the river with their families.

Family Fun Walk

On August 24th Spirit of Adoption Alberta hosted our very first fundraiser. We had a 2.5 KM walk in the Edmonton River Valley and we had about 100 people show up to walk with us. We then joined in with Christian Adoption Services annual picnic, for a bbq, face painting, a bouncy castle and kids games. We had a beautiful day for our event and we have had a lot of very positive feedback from those who attended. We knew this year would be our trial year, a year to figure it all out! Next year, we will know exactly what needs to be done and will also plan a walk in Calgary as well.

We also hosted a raffle with some great prizes such as an i pad mini package, a child's trampoline, some baby baskets and a seven day vacation to Turks and Caicos. All this money went to support Christian Adoption Services, so that they can continue to do the amazing work that they do!

It was exciting to meet so many new people, many who were seeking advice on adoption. We even had some people walk into our event to ask questions on how to adopt.

Spirit of Adoption Alberta raises money to provide grants for Alberta families in the adoption process. In our first year, we have given out nine grants ranging from $2,000 - $3,500. We have not had to turn down a single application yet! As word gets out about our cause, we do expect a lot more applications to start coming in.

We are also excited that a Public Relations fellow has stepped forward and offered to do a complete overhaul on all of our promotional materials, as well as our website. He will also be guiding us on how best to promote SOAA. We plan to launch our new look in November at the Focus on the Family Together for Adoption conference in Calgary.
